Pandemic disruption to Swindon students’ education to be tackled

The disruption and damage wrought by the pandemic on education in Swindon is to be addressed by a new partnership.

Chameleon PDE is working in collaboration with Swindon Borough Council to launch the new ‘Raising Aspirations’ project, which is a direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic caused huge disruption and damage to in-school learning, emotional health and motivation amongst young people.

In order to support pupil aspiration, Chameleon PDE is running an end of year ‘aspirations event’ for both primary and secondary schools in Swindon across June 28 and 29.

“Compared to other areas, including statistical neighbors, young people in Swindon tend to be a bit less aspirational than average, so we want to try and address this,” Lacey Sandiford said.

“Our project is set up to provide primary and secondary schools in Swindon with PSHE and training resources that will help students at different stages of their education to cope with transition and prepare them for future career prospects.”

Counselors, local authorities, graduates, apprentices and various other sectors are all invited to attend the event and speak with the young students about their work and how they transition from one stage of education to the next.
