New Albany may annex another 403 acres from Jersey for business park

The city of New Albany is looking to annex roughly 403 acres from Jersey Township in hopes of creating more technology jobs in the New Albany International Business Park.

City Council on Jan. 3 considered legislation for expedited type 1 annexation of 25 properties from the township representing the following acreage: 61.26, 13.874, 312.86 and 15.03.

In a related move, council considered a measure that would rezone the land from agriculture to technology manufacturing district requested by MBJ Holdings LLC, an affiliate of the New Albany Co.

Because both were first readings, no official action was taken. The legislation will appear on a future agenda for consideration. Jan. 17.

There are no known users or plans for the property, said Steven Mayer, planning manager for the city.
