A fire that broke out at Hanover House on the site of the Royal York Hotel in Ryde last night (Wednesday) is being treated as arson.
Shortly after 19:00, 4 appliances from Ryde, Sandown and Newport were mobilized to the scene at George Street, where smoke was seen billowing out of a 1st floor window.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus and equipped with hose reel jets fought the fire both externally and internally.
This comes just 2 days after police were called to the same address where broken windows were discovered but no persons were located.
This fire is the latest suspicious incident involving derelict Island hotels after similar occurrences at properties including The Ocean Hotel, Parkbury Hotel and Grand Hotel all in Sandown.
